Another form of self-care is yoga. It’s an ancient practice which involves movement, exercise, meditation, breathing techniques and positive thinking. Yoga has many benefits including increasing flexibility, creating calmness, increasing body awareness, relazing the mind and improving sleep. An article published in 2021, titled “Feasibility, Acceptability, and Outcomes of a Yoga Based Meditation Intervention for Hospice Professionals to Combat Burnout” found that yoga based meditation intervientions reduces burnout by helping people become more in tune with their body’s signals. Paying attention to how your body feels takes time and is a skill. It’s also really beneficial. When you practice self awareness, you really get to know yourself and your needs.
There are different typs of yoga. Power yoga is when you quickly move from one posture to another. Hot yoga is popular. You can do hot yoga in a heated room to warm, stretching the muscles. Integral inlcudes breathing, chanting and meditation. In Iyengar, you hold poses for long periods of time. Which type of yoga works for you?
Yoga is an option becuase you can practice it in a variety of places such as a gym or at home. This allows you to practice at a variety of times, which ever works for you.
